Maintenance: what you need to know

Maintenance comprises of a contribution to the living costs. In most cases the partner who earns the most must pay the partner who earns the least. This is called spousal maintenance. In addition, maintenance will be provided to the parent caring for the child; this is called child maintenance. The amount of the maintenance will be determined on the basis of the income.
